iRig Mix review

A new article from me, this time discussing the new iRig Mix unit from IK Multimedia. The mixer is a simple looking and very slimline 2-channel mixer, with headphone cueuing and a possible 3rd channel via the front panel. While the mixer won't be setting turntablists hearts alight, it is a useful addition to the bag for ultra-portable DJing. It's probably best to think of the mixer as a blend between the existing iRig guitar connector and an iOS DJ splitter cable with more controls around it.

Why Are There No Good DJ Apps For Android?

An article where I venture into the world of Android apps...a little difficult for me as I don't have an Android device to test them on or provide any really useful feedback. Only 3 apps currently seem to stand out and one of those looks like a bad rip-off of DJ Player.
I would imagine the same arguments apply to apps for Windows phones as well?

Review: DJ Rig App for iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch

Time for another app review, DJRig is from experienced iOS and hardware development team IK Multimedia. The app is designed for smaller screens and seems to cause my first generation iPad problems on loading up. It also uses a curious method of syncing bpm between devices (or indeed an external audio source)...via the built-in microphone.

DJRig is $1.99 but has in-app purchases to unlock additional cue points and further effects;

5 Ways Apple Could Improve iPad, iPhone & iPad Touch For DJs

Another list-based article, delving into what could Apple do to make things better for DJs on iOS. The obvious issue of a single stereo output is discussed among others!

Review: MusicFriends App for iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch

Another review, this time not strictly a DJ app but brought to you from the development team behind the DJ Mixer app.  The MusicFriends app gives registered users the ability to share their Music Library with other users. The app tries to find video clips, audio clips and iTunes purchase links for each item in the library - it needs a few tweaks and only for the brave who have no skeletons in the library to hide!

MusicFriends is free;

5 Reasons Why iOS Isn’t Suitable For DJing

In a follow-up to my previous article, I attempt to highlight some common issues that are voiced regarding DJing with iOS devices.

Don't forget, I love DJ apps, iOS devices and the potential that can come from them...it's all about balancing the arguments!
