This app has sort of fallen out of favour with me, since it seemed only to be focused on replicating turntables and lost out where other apps gained in features like multiple cue points and looping.
Anyway, today sees a massive update to the app which includes many new features including multiple cue points, auto and manual looping as well as display of bpm data in the track selection.
After an initial run through of the app post upgrade, the main UI is pretty much unchanged. The additional cue points and loop points can be set by pressing the EQ button near the top of the deck. The loop facility seems well thought out, allowing you to do immediate looping using the 'Auto-Loop' feature (a little like looping on Cue.Play.DJ - but without the 'Hot' setting) or carefully set your Loop-In and Loop-Out points (a bit like TapDJ). It seems the loop-In & loop-out points are not stored. The Bounce Loop is something that I could see getting a lot of use, it gives you 6 buttons labelled 2, 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16. As you press a button it immediately loops the current section for that set period, when you release the button the track immediately continues from where it would have done if it hadn't done the looping (ie 'Hot'). The smaller the fraction, the more glitchy your looping gets - when I say glitchy, I mean in a good way!
The BPM display in the library is another useful addition to the app...however it really would be much more useful if you could sort by BPM on the songlist.
Full detail is this;
This update contains lots of exciting new features including looping, multiple cue points and BPM library browsing. In addition we addressed various stability issues.
- Auto Looping (with on-the-fly half/double)
- Manual Looping (in, out, reloop)
- Bounce Looping (1/16 to 2 beats)
- 3 additional Cue Points
- BPM column in full screen library
- Level meter swipe (gain adjust)
- Added compatibility with Bluetooth audio devices
- Extended support for AIFF and WAV files (requires iOS 4.3)
- Improved library search
- Fixed low memory issues
- Fixed low memory related crashes
- Various bug fixes and improvements
★ NOTE: Looping, cue points, and EQs are accessible through the tools sheet that you can open with the button above the speed slider. ★
